To get the longest vase life possible you will need to care for your cut flowers properly. There are many schools of thought as to the best way to achieve this. I have found it to be quite simple and you most likely already have everything you need.
Instructions
Following these instructions will help you get the most out of your flowers. Dahlias should last 4-6 days in the vase depending on the variety.
- When you get your flowers home get them into fresh clean water and set them in a cool room for an hour or two to rest.
- Re-trim stems on a 45-degree angle and set in a clean vase. Add water with a small amount of bleach to help prevent bacteria from growing in the vase and extend the life of your flowers (1/4 teaspoon bleach per liter of vase water).
- Replace the water every couple of days, retrimming stems each time.
- Keep your flowers as cool as possible. (It helps to move them to a cool room in the evening and bring them back to your display room during the day.)
- Enjoy your flowers!
